Founded in 1128, Grimbergen is one of the oldest and most popular breweries in Belgium. Its brewery has been ruined and rebuilt many times throughout its history, but it never stopped producing quality beer.
Its motto is “ardet nec consumitur”, which translates to burned but not destroyed, in reference to its survival despite three devastating fires. Now, the monks of the Norbertine order have reopened their brewery inside the abbey walls.
Origin and history
Grimbergen beer is a variety of abbey beers made by Norbertine monks in Belgium. Today, they are brewed by different breweries, including Alken-Maes (Heineken) and Carlsberg in Belgium
